So, i have been working on something new for Sweeper 3D. As much as the reception to the game isn't enormous, it's been pretty ok. Some things that will help people find out are still missing, like an Android 'Share to Facebook' button. But what i've been working on is not just another Social feature, but a lot more! This is something that Harald Maassen suggested to me a while back, and it's been in the back of my mind, until last night when i decided to start implementing it.
Sweeper 3D is going to get a Challenge mode! That's right, it's going multiplayer!
Here's how it works:
- I decide i want to make a Challenge.
- In the Challenge creator, select a game mode, duration of the Challenge and my friends' email addresses. You can add up to 10 friends per Challenge!
- It doesn't matter that they don't have the game or an Android phone, since it's all free and you can play in your browser! Yes, it works across platforms!
- Hitting the Create button, me and all of the people i've added get an email immediately. This email tells them where they can get the game and how the Challenge works.
- Every time they play that game mode before the Challenge ends, their scores count toward the Challenge leaderboard.
- When the Challenge is over, the person who got the best score wins!
Cool right? The thing i'm liking the most about it, is the fact that your friends don't even need the game to be invited. You just need to enter their email address, and they'll get an email telling them where to get the game, or how to play in their browser. Because it's cross platform and free - on Android, Windows & Mac - they have no excuse not to join in!
And it's nearly done! The basics are working, and it's probably possible to play it right now. The only thing is that the UI for it isn't in the game but on some separate web pages. If i have time in the next 2 weeks, i'll probably finish it up and update both the Web and Android versions with custom menus for this.
And what's more, this is the first time i know of that a 3D sweeper game has gone multiplayer!!!
